 Music Director Dr. Glenn R. Gregg
holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in choral conducting from the University of Washington, and a Master's degree in choral conducting from Cal State, Northridge. An engaging personality, accomplished musician, and inspiring conductor, he has been a professional in the field of choral music for more than 20 years. This is Dr. Gregg’s tenth season with KCS.

Our Mission: Kirkland Choral Society’s mission is to give our community opportunities to experience and learn about choral musical arts in the following ways:

  • Regularly performing a wide-ranging repertoire of classical and modern choral masterworks;

  • Presenting information about the history, musical craft, and cultural meaning of choral music;

  • Creating opportunities for musical training and performance for community members;

  • Providing opportunities for singers and audiences alike to experience choral music at its finest.

It was 1988 when...

Kirkland Choral Society was born in the living room of one of our founding members, Jeffrey Waters. The concept of an Eastside Community choir was presented to Waters by Dr. Jerry Mader, our first director. Practicing in a basement rehearsal space with a handful of singers, Waters says: "we were eight voices strong and sang with great enthusiasm if not great artistry." Waters, then President of the Creative Arts League (now the Kirkland Arts Center,) and Mader both composed and arranged original scores for the group, including a choral version of Pachebel's Canon.

Between 1988 and 1997 the group grew in number and the rehearsal spaces improved as KCS performed a very diverse repertoire.

In 1997 KCS began its relationship with Dr. Glenn R. Gregg, our current conductor, under whose direction we found a more classical focus - performing Schubert's Mass in G, Beethoven's Hallelujah and Haydn's The Heavens are Telling.

Following a year under director Tony Catanzariti, KCS was fortunate to re-engage Dr. Gregg in 1999 for what we hope will be a lifelong partnership. KCS has since increased our membership to more than 90 singers and regularly perform the great choral masterpieces of this and past centuries with full orchestra. We hope that you will join us in celebrating our 20th season by attending our concerts.
