While the bi-monthly neighborhood association meetings are very
interesting, I find that I often have trouble concentrating on
them. It's not that the items being discussed are unimportant;
it's just that the beautiful music coming from the room across
the hallway is so captivating, it cannot be ignored.
You see, the Kirkland Choral Society has their rehearsals in
the sanctuary at the United Methodist Church every Tuesday
evening, the same time as the neighborhood association meetings.
This non-profit performing organization is a mixed choir that
performs selections from the full range of choral repertoire.
According to their brochure, "emphasis is placed on creating a
quality singing and performing experience, with opportunities to
socialize and enjoy the process of making music together."
The director is Dr. Glenn R. Gregg, who has a doctorate
degree in choral conducting from the University of Washington,
and a master's degree in choral conducting from California State
University, Northridge. Perhaps it's the music teacher side of
me taking over, but I just can't help but glance across the
hallway and "tune in" to the rehearsal in progress. From what I
have heard and seen, this is a very professional and well-run
group.
Their third and final concert of the season is at 2 p.m. June
2 in the Kirkland Performing Arts Center. The choir will be
performing Mozart's "Requiem," along with Handel's Coronation
Anthem." The cost is $15 for adults, and $12 for students and
seniors. For more information about the concert, auditions for
next year's choir or the Kirkland Choral Society in general, log
on to

musical group of this caliber in our neighborhood.
