KCS’s 2024–25 season will be one for the ages: artfully crafted, personal-best concert programs from each of the talented finalists for our Artistic Director position.
Composer Eric Whitacre and his longtime friend and collaborator, poet Charles Anthony Silvestri, have created their most expansive work to date, “The Sacred Veil,” a sensitive exploration of the fragile lines between birth, love, life, and loss. This poignant human story is a delicate, beautiful, and emotional work that charts Silvestri falling in love with his wife, the birth of their children, and her death from cancer. Its text is drawn primarily from Silvestri’s poetry and from the words of his late wife, Julie. Our presentation of this powerful piece is conducted by Dr. Steven Zopfi and joined by our partner orchestra, Philharmonia Northwest.
This concert lasts 70 minutes with no intermission.

Philharmonia Northwest accompanied KCS in Elaine Hagenburg's gorgeous new major choral-orchestral work, Illuminare, and we explored the many facets of love and longing through delightful offerings by Stephen Sondheim, Rosephanye Powell, Jocelyn Hagen, Gwyneth Walker, and more. Highlights included Vaughan Williams's exquisite Fantasia on Christmas Carols and Hailstork's exuberant Shout for Joy, both featuring pipe organ, and two ethereal movements of Latvian composer Andris Sejans's The Seven O Antiphons.
